Located in an area of San Antonio known as Universal City, Olympia Hills opened in 2000 and quickly gained a reputation for its outstanding greens, which feature tricky undulations and putt extremely fast due to the hybrid Flora Dwarf Bermuda, which allows a lower mowing height. The layout offers dramatic elevation changes of 50 feet or more on holes 8 and 11, which are considered the most scenic for good reason. The longest hole is No. 6, a 575-yard par 5 that is impossible to reach in two.

Getting there : Located just south of I-35, outside of Loop 1604 in the Olympia Hills subdivision.

My wife goes to San Antonio on business from time to time, and as a retiree, I play golf while she works. She had a half-day in Schertz and wanted me close as we needed to drive to Dallas that afternoon, so I tried Olympia Hills. I wasn't expecting much as I had played Northpointe just up 35 in a similar situation last year, but boy was I surprised! Great condition, lots of elevation changes make this a great course to play - and the people who work there were all friendly and helpful.
