Wildwood was designed in 1966 by Leon Howard, who was able to use this impressive terrain near the Big Thicket National Preserve to his advantage as he turned this par 71, 6,696-yard layout into the centerpiece of a resort community. His design features two large lakes that come into play on about half the holes, as well as wide fairways and good-sized, mounded greens.
Hackers can enjoy themselves at Wildwood because it takes unusually bad tee shots to get into trouble here. Each nine ends with an impressive hole. The front nine's ender is only a 455-yard par 5, but has a creek cutting across the fairway around 260 yards from the tee. No. 18 involves carrying a drainage ditch off the tee, then plays uphill into a dogleg fairway that is lined by trees.
In between, No. 12 presents some problems because it plays 221 yards and requires a carry over a creek.
Getting there : From Hwy. 69 south, turn right on Button Willow Dr. The course is on the right side of the street.
