Golfing residents of Liberty live a charmed existence, having the pleasure of playing one of the best 9-hole tracks in the state. In 1951, an aspiring young architect named Ralph Plummer, who at the time specialized in 9-hole courses, was lured to Liberty by Milton Demaret (Jimmy's brother) who was slotted as the head pro.

Plummer made the most of the opportunity, creating a masterpiece out of the giant magnolias, oaks, and pines on the site. Abbots Creek runs through the layout and is featured on the difficult 364-yard No. 6. The creek looms right and cuts in front of the green, and out-of-bounds looms left. If you survive the tee shot, you'll need more accuracy for the approach into the multi-leveled green.

Getting there : Take I-10 south out of Houston, and exit Liberty, which turns into Hwy. 90. Get on the loop and turn right on the road by the car dealership. Follow the signs to the course.

Thank goodness the hog problem has been resolved. Fairways are pretty rough from hog damage, and affects any roll. Holes need filling. Great little course. Still play at least weekly.

Hogs have torn up 8 and 9 fairways.. The greens are way to hard. If they drilled the greens and fixed the fairways kept the fairways mowed it would be playable. Shot a 75 at national, shot an 82 at the ridge two days earlier..not really a fair course..

This is a lovely course and unexpected. The clubhouse/country club is charming and offers everything a golfer would enjoy. The course itself has fast greens that are in great shape and a stunning view, carved between beautiful magnolias--their namesake.

The cost is more than reasonable.

It is worth the ride out from Houston and I'm hearing that the city is about to make some improvements to the parking lot and street. That's encouraging news.

    We will be back!

Played a tournament at MRCC this weekend. Greens were in great shape. Don't come here looking for Augusta, this is Liberty TX and it exceeded my expectations. Very challenging holes 5&6, friendly staff and a bargain price made for an above average experience .

The course is in much much better condition now. Mike Jerome has done a great job with the course. The greens are above average along with the fairways. The course is in the best condition I have seen in the last 10 years. Well worth the drive to play a challenging, small greens course.

Seen better goat farms and softer tennis courts. Every lie is tight. They call weeds grass. If you're on the wagon, this will drive you back to drinking. They should pay you to play it.
