Sundown Municipal Golf Course

About
This 9-hole High Plains course is a bit different from other small-town Panhandle courses. It is longer (over 3,100 yards) with two par 5s over 500 yards, and the greens are extremely large. So large that the club puts two flagsticks on every hole to make the hole different from the second set of tees the second time you play. The builders of most courses out here didn’t bother with bunkers, but Sundown has about a half-dozen that are sprinkled about the course. The flat terrain was molded slightly to cause uneven lies. Water is in play on three holes, and as you might expect, the wind can be a major factor. There are even a few trees along the fairways that can cause problems. Hole 9 is the number one handicap and plays 450 yards on the back nine.
Getting there : From Lubbock, take FM 1585 west and turn left when you get to CR 301. Turn right on Richardson and drive 8 blocks to the course.
