Originally built by the Civil Works Commission, Lake Sweetwater is a beautiful course that offers scenic views of the countryside. The track features wide-open fairways lined by a standard cut of rough. There are no bunkers, but water comes into play on almost half of the holes. The terrain is hilly, more so on the back nine than the front. Approach shots here find small, fast greens.
Some have complained about the conditions due to lack of water, but the course has recently installed a new irrigation system.
Getting there : West of Abilene off of I-20. Exit FM 1856 and turn left. The course is 1 mile away on the left side of the road.

Lake filled up 2 years ago which alleviated the water shortage issues. New greens were planted on the back nine and were open for play summer of '09.
For a small town West Texas course it's pretty nice.
