Pinecrest opened in 1921 as a 9-hole track with sand greens. One of the oldest courses in the state, it was updated in 1959 by Press Maxwell, making it a 6,400-yard par 70 layout. The design incorporates water five or six water hazards and mounding around the greens.
The front is the more demanding of the nines, featuring many nasty holes. No. 2 is a long par 5 highlighted by a creek on the right that crosses the fairway at 220 yards from the tee. The same goes for hole 5, a 437-yard par 4 with a creek in the landing area. The par 5 No. 4 is rated the most difficult, but No. 9 is a 457-yard par 4 that requires two macho golf shots to get home in two.
Getting there : From I-20 east, take Hwy 259 north for 4 miles to Cotton St.. Turn right, drive a short distance to the course, and look for the entrance on the right side of the road.
