Formerly known as Roy H. Laird Country Club, this course was built in 1935 and has a solid reputation as one of the better 9-hole courses in the state. Meadowbrook’s design features one par 5, one par 3, and seven par 4s, one of which is the 265-yard 7th hole.
The lone par 5 (No. 4) is a 520-yard dogleg right through a tight chute of trees. It’s probably wise to under-club and pay attention to the wind on No. 6, the lone par 3 that plays 150 yards and has out-of-bounds looming behind the green.
Every par 4 is under 400 yards, and other than a few holes with out-of-bounds behind the green, the primary cause of mounting scores has to do with the extremely deceptive greens, which feature dramatic undulations and are waiting for your three-putts.
Two sets of tees make for an 18-hole round.
Getting there : From Dallas, take I-20 east and turn south on Hwy. 259 to Kilgore. In town, turn left on Houston and drive 1 mile to the course.
