Deer Run Golf Club is a flat course, spotted by a few nice oaks, but especially difficult because of the stiff lake breeze that pounds the course. The design features tough approaches into greens that snake back into the trees.
Hole 7 is nice because of its location near the lake. The tee box offers a pleasing view of the water and the uphill, doglegging shot is perfect for a fade, but dangerous because of the water right. The lake looms left, and the approach involves carrying the creek that fronts the green. This great hole goes 465 yards from the tips.

On the back, the final three holes offer a tough stretch of golf. Starting with the number one handicap, 425-yard No. 16, and followed by another long par 4 and a 530-yard par 5, you’ll need to be on your game when you’re heading to the clubhouse at Deer Run Golf Club.

Getting there : From I-30, take Hwy. 205 south, turn left on Hwy. 276, and travel 20 miles. Turn right on Hwy. 34, then turn left at the first traffic light (Hwy. 276). Drive 7 miles to the course, which is on the left.

Golf in the afternoon and booking online it was basically $25. I found the owners to be nice. The course was just ok. It was probably worth the $25 but I would not call it a bargain at that price. Granted we had never golfed there but we had some problems just trying to figure out what was the rough and what was the fairways on some of the holes. Greens were inconsistent. Some only had grass on about 70% of the green. It has a good layout but I am not sure I will golf there again.

I have played this course for years, it now has a new owner, and I have to say They are working very hard to improve the course. No it’s not perfect “Yet” but in time it will be. I have seen the commitment of this owner first hand. I was his first customer when he purchased the course. He has turned a lot of things around and it is getting in great shape. Please help support him and I see great things in the Future.

First of all the course has a ton of potential and I'm confident the new owners will eventually have the course in great condition however we played there yesterday and while the course is improving it still has a long way to go. Some fairways were mowed and some were 4" tall and loosing my ball in the middle of the fairway is not my idea of fun. While some fairways were not mowed ALL roughs were tall and gnarly. We lost way to many golf balls by being 1 foot off the fairway. My guess is the unusual amount of rainfall this spring has put the behind making the improvements they hoped for by this time. Really looking forward to seeing what this course will be like in the future a true gem in the rough.

New owners really have been making a difference at this golf course. I’ve been in the area for years only golfing every once in awhile, and now I plan on coming every week. The quality has improved a lot and it’s well worth the visit now.

The course has really started to make a come back from the past few years. The course was recently purchased and now under new management which they are extremely friendly and are done a lot of great work already for this course! In just the few months of taking over the reins, the new owner James Chimp has really got this course headed back in the right direction!!!

I loved it because it an interesting layout with mature trees and greens that will allow a shot to run up onto the putting surface. It is not in great shape but the green fee is reasonable and I certainly dispute the cow pasture reference. I would hope that most golfers can see past the condition of the course, unless it is awful, to enjoy the beauty and challenge of a well designed course.

Its not Pebble Beach, but it is affordable and fun to play. I prefer playing a course like this compared to paying $80+ and finishing a round in 5+ hours.
