Keeping it on the short grass at Moody Gardens Golf Course in Galveston
GALVESTON, Texas -- Moody Gardens Golf Course is anything but your typical muni. Sure, it's fairly inexpensive to play, but course conditions, views and weather are hard to beat on the island's only public facility.
The course was renovated in 2008 by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, who raised the greens and fairways to give it more depth, but perhaps more important, planted it wall-to-wall with paspalum grass, which is saltwater tolerant. That's important since the course is only a few hundred yards from the Gulf of Mexico.
Today, the course and the grass thrive as Moody Gardens Golf Course has become a favorite among locals and those in the southern suburbs of Houston.
